Andrea Hopkins is a Project Coordinator at the Council of Canadian Academies

Andrea holds a B.Soc.Sci (Hon) from the University of Ottawa, where she studied Political Science and Global Studies. Andrea has completed the seminar work for her MA from York University and anticipates completing her major research paper shortly. Her main research interests involve the application of a critical lens on the intersections of surveillance and intervention in the security of the body. Andrea was assigned to the prestigious York Centre for International Security Studies (YCISS) for her graduate assistantship, where she also served as an affiliated researcher.

Andrea is an active volunteer in the community, particularly with Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, where she serves as the local President, a peer mentor and advocate. She is also an ambassador for Health Partners, an organization that works with 16 national health charities to facilitate workplace donations. As an extension of her advocacy work, Andrea also participated in the program’s “I am Living Proof” video series, highlighting the importance of donations to health charities from coast to coast.

Andrea has worked on the following completed CCA assessments: Informing Research Choices: Indicators and Judgment; The State of Industrial R&D in Canada; Aboriginal Food Security in Northern Canada: An Assessment of the State of Knowledge; Policing Canada in the 21st Century: New Policing for New Challenges; Leading in the Digital World: Opportunities for Canada’s Memory Institutions; Health Product Risk Communication: Is the Message Getting Through; and, Technology and Policy Options for a Low-Emission Energy System in Canada.
